Enrichment Expansion: Bringing coding education to kids in multifamily housing

The Fast Forward Mississippi initiative is launching a fundraising effort to expand its Kids Code Mississippi project that focuses on providing coding education for underserved youth living in multifamily housing complexes.

In partnership with Springboard To Opportunities, Kids Code Mississippi piloted the program in a west Jackson complex in the fourth quarter of 2015. The program consisted of an eight week introductory coding course taught on-site. Approximately 15 students participated.

Fast Forward has set a goal of expanding to 6 multifamily complexes across Mississippi in 2016 with expanded capacity to serve 100 students. The expanded program would consist of two sets of eight-week courses, beginning summer, 2016.

Funds raised by this effort will be used to compensate qualified coding instructors and purchase necessary hardware/software. Fast Forward hopes to raise these funds entirely from the private sector.
